G Hotel Donates Furniture to Tenaganita for Their New Working Office
G Hotel donated some furniture to Tenaganita (Women’s Force) Penang, a Malaysian human rights and non-government organization to further enhance their new working space and office facilities so that they can have a better working environment to continue helping the female community.
G Hotel Gurney has just completed RM35million major renovation early this year with a brand new furniture and facilities in all rooms, function rooms, grand lobby and food and beverage outlets. The notable ones are the guest rooms which feature United Kingdom’s Camerich lifestyle furnishings, Serta Royal Platinum Mattresses, 300 thread count linens, Herman Miller designer work chairs, 55 inch smart HD LED TVs, and free non-alcoholic minibar, as well as the lobby and lounge that has been replaced with Italian designer furniture such as Minotti and Porada.
Shahril bin Seman, Housekeeping Manager of G Hotel Gurney together with 4 other staffs transported some old furniture from the hotel to Tenaganita and the shelter. They have just moved into the new office in Island Glades, Penang in July 2017. A total of 41 items were given to Tenaganita’s new office and the shelter, which are 2 round tables and a foldable table, 3 armchairs, 4 executive chairs and 19 wooden chairs, 2 refrigerators and 10 dustbins.
Anne Katherine, Shelter Coordinator of Tenaganita is happy to have received the furniture and is looking forward to continue with a greater effort to promote and protect the rights of marginalised and vulnerable women and children who have no voice in this globalised world.
“We have been in Penang for 3 years since 1st Nov 2014 and we have finally moved into an office last month together with 4 other staffs and some volunteers. We are grateful to G Hotel for helping us and the furniture will be put into good use. We hope to receive some financial supports and transportation as well for the expansion of Tenaganita to help the needy,” says Anne.
Tenaganita is dedicated in assisting, building, advocating and protecting migrants, refugees, women and children from exploitation, abuse, discrimination, slavery and human trafficking.
“We’re just doing a small part of contribution to the society and we know that Tenaganita needs great moral support and financial aids. Hence, in support of this cause, we hope to help the organization create an awareness of their existence who are promoting and protecting the rights and dignity of all women, migrants and refugees,” says Mr Michael Hanratty, General Manager of G Hotel.
G Hotel has also donated some different old furniture to Ru Yi Children’s Home Penang and SMK Convent Pulau Tikus prior to this as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
G Hotel has also organized numerous charitable events since the opening in 2007 such as donation for Save our Strays Penang (SOS), bathing the dogs at SPCA, buying Christmas presents for orphans, donation to old folks’ home, cleaning of Gurney Drive area, raising funds for the underprivileged, organizing educational classes to instil five-star F&B and hospitality knowledge to children from some Homes and schools in close proximity to the hotel.
Since we started in 1991, our scope of work has grown in leaps and bounds. Today we work to address issues of exploitation, discrimination, unequal treatment, and violence against women, refugees and migrant workers.
Tenaganita has grown in strength through our initiatives and interventions – challenged by proposed discrimination policies and humbled by the enduring willpower of our communities.
We believe that in order to achieve our full potential as human beings we need an enabling, safe and healthy environment for all people irrespective of race, gender, colour, origin, identity and/or religion. Tenaganita aims to make the dream of the respect of rights and dignity for all an achievable reality.
