Using Art to Create Awareness @ El Centro
Kota Kinabalu, 10 February 2014 — For the first time in Sabah, we will be launching a monthly community arts night called Eclectic Ecstatic. This event aims to give a platform to the entire creative community to showcase their talents and works. Every month, the event will highlight different artists, musicians, dancers, poets, DJs, and etc which will help raise awareness about different issues that we are facing in the community. And we are kick starting with ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE: a global call to end violence against women and girls.
The first edition held at El Centro, featured music by Rozella who debuted her latest single, ‘Genevieve’ which is the theme song for this year’s One Billion Rising dance in Kota Kinabalu. She was accompanied by The Slackers for the acoustic version and TAKT, an electro duo for the remix.
Other music performances include Yazid Yanzid Osman and Aized Emir Kual who shared their acoustic experimental sound; Ayin, a finger drummer and member of Goyang72; and BARAKUDA, a KK based percussion group, joined by Adam Kitingan.
The One Billion Rising dance which was choreographed by Devi Kusardy Cox and Sabrina Aripen (based on the One Billion Rising dance Break the Chain) also made its premiere. Plus other dance performances include Rae Kissing Fire, who performed a freestyle poi dance; and Allan Kerroux of TACKit who shared a Cubano shine step demo.
The organizers, Contagious Creative Agency and TACKit aims to create a platform for local and international artists of different forms to showcase their talents.
