When you are in Ho Chi Minh City, try to stay nearby Cho Ben Thanh, this is a central area for tourist attractions. You can conveniently walk to the presidential palace, cathedral and etc. Ben Thanh Market is the largest indoor marketplace in the city, the most famous as well centrally located in the city of Saigon and is the liveliest areas. No visit to Ho Chi Minh would be complete without experiencing the chaos and madness of the Ben Thanh Market. You can find out more about Saigonese daily life here, their food, clothes and daily used items: vegetables, meats, spices, sweets, tobacco, clothing, hardware and etc. Also quite a selection of souvenir items but you will need to bargain efficiently here, as prices are usually higher than elsewhere.
Ben Thanh market is located in district 1 and if you stay in this area everywhere is just a walking distance. You can easily see it with the belfry and the clock on its entrance. Opposite of this is a statue of a horseman in the center of a round about.
Walking will be the best way to get around the city and you can explore more interesting places, if you really have to take a taxi I recommended you to take Vinasun and Mailinh taxi which is known for complying ther rules and used of calibrated meters.
At Ben Thanh Market you can get lots of stuff here like coffee as in all kinds of coffee- grounds, beans, powder, etc.! Lots of bags, shirts, souvenir items- shirts, key chains, frames, caps etc.. I also like the big fruits being sold here.

There are countless aisles chock full of vendors with their products filling up just about every available space. This is the place to sample Vietnamese delicacies and one stop shopping for all your souvenir but make sure you bargain hard.
The Ben Thanh Night Market will comes alive at 7:00pm - 12am everyday. It's centrally located Saigon night market, on the 2 side of road on both side (intersection of Le Loi, Ham Nghi, Tran Hung Dao Avenues and Le Lai Street) of Ben Thanh Market, this is definitely the place to go for your night shopping and late supper. You’ll find men clothing and ladies shoes, bags, sunglasses, bikinis, souvenirs from Vietnam and a lot more. As for food, the Ben Thanh night market won’t disappoint you with a wide variety of Vietnamese food to choose from.
You cn grab some sport wear like Nike, Adidas, Puma and polo t-shirts with brands like Polo Ralph, Abercrombie, Lacoste, Timberland but remember to bargain for it at Ben Thanh night market
