The Cube Brings Back Raya Aidilfitri Memories
On the 13th of August 2012, Celcom Axiata Berhad, the first and foremost mobile telecommunications provider in the country, bring back fond Raya memories this year by introducing a remix of the classic hit Menjelang Hari Raya as part of its exclusive Aidilfitri offerings on The Cube – a multimedia-branded channel that fulfils consumers’ needs to access content on any device while on the move, at home, at work or at play.

Menjelang Hari Raya was originally recorded in 1979 and is a perennial favourite for Raya celebrations since its first performance by Datuk Irwan Shah Abdullah, who is popularly known as D.J. Dave. The new Menjelang Hari Raya (CUBE Mix) single is conceived and produced by The Cube and will be available exclusively on The Cube as part of its Musicube and Call Me Tones offerings, alongside other incredible content offerings of music, games, sports and entertainment.

Speaking on the remix, En. Afizulazha Abdullah, Chief Operations, Advanced Data for Celcom Axiata Berhad, said, “This is the first time ever that a mobile telecommunications service provider has collaborated with a music label to produce and offer a modern twist on a classic song, and we have no doubt that this exclusive single from us will appeal to a younger generation and our customers on The Cube. With lively new beats accompanying the well-known melody, the Menjelang Hari Raya remix will join an extensive line-up of other popular classic and modern Raya songs available on The Cube including Dendang Perantau, Suasana Hari Raya, and the ubiquitous yet evergreen Selamat Hari Raya.”
Apart from D.J. Dave’s unmistakable tenor vocals, the upbeat single also features world-renowned percussionist Steve Thornton who has performed with the likes of Tracy Chapman, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, and jazz legend Miles Davis, local turntable maestro DJ Nabila, who won the Choons Award for Best Female DJ for three consecutive years, and upcoming newcomer DJ Feeraz.
Commenting on the remix of his classic song, D.J. Dave said, “For a song that has been around for almost 35 years, I think Celcom has done a very good job to make it appeal to a younger generation of music lovers especially through new media like The Cube. People will be dancing to the song when they listen to it on their mobiles!”
“Through projects such as these, I hope to do more Raya songs and nostalgic numbers, perhaps something with similar beats. I am in discussion with The Cube for future collaborations and hope to keep music lovers entertained this Hari Raya and for future ones to come,” he added.
The Menjelang Hari Raya (CUBE Mix) single is part of The Cube’s Nur Ramadan and Salam Syawal campaigns for Ramadan and Aidilfitri this year, which aims to bring customers and their loved ones closer together through a celebration of love by forgiving, sharing and caring.
To give its customers more cause for reflection and celebration, The Cube is offering seven promotional premieres as part of its Malam 7 Likur promotions from the 12th to the 19th of August 2012, each to be launched in the seven days leading towards the month of Syawal.
