Nasi Kandar is a popular northern Malaysian dish, which originates from Penang. It is a meal of steamed rice which can be plain or mildly flavored, and served with a variety of curries and side dishes. In KK, Nasi Kandar is not widely available. However, it could still be find in Nasi Kandar Anak Mami which had two branches located in Bundusan and Lintas respectively.

Fortune Maker Restaurant run by Patrick Lew, 46, and his wife, Chong Siew Ling, 38, the shop serves steamed Soong fish head (varieties: steamed with shredded ginger, glutinous rice wine and spicy soy bean sauce). Soong fish head is popular for its smooth flesh and it does not have the mud smell which is common freshwater fish. To eliminate the strong fishy smell, first, the fish head is immersed in a bucket of rice water with wedges of lemon to wash off the fishy smell before it goes into a steamer. A timer monitors the steaming duration. Five minutes on the dot, the fish head is removed and the juices drained out. It is only after the fish head has been drained of this liquid that the ingredients, like rice wine or sauces are added in before it is topped with shredded ginger, chilies and parsley.

Fish Head Curry is a famous dish in both Malaysia and Singapore, which the head of the fish is semi-stewed in curry with assorted vegetables such as ladyfingers and brinjal and usually served with rice.

He Jia Fo Seafood Restaurant is a Chinese Muslim's restaurant which is located at Sunny Garden next to the famous Restaurant Kuo Man. You can find variety of dishes in their Menu including Wor Tip (Dumplings), Wantan Noodle, Soto and Tuaran Mee.

Mamak stalls and Hindu stalls are alike except the Mamaks, who are Muslims, do not serve pork but serves beef, whereas the Hindus do not serve beef and pork. Mamak restaurant food tends to be unhealthy with high levels of fat and sugar. Teh tarik is strong tea with large doses of sweetened creamer (synthetic milk made from palm oil) and evaporated milk. There are also several ways to prepare or embellish the basic roti canai, some of which involve large amounts of margarine (roti planta), sugar (roti tissue), or both (roti bom). The Kaamatan festival, also known as Harvest festival, is an annual event in the cultural life of the Kadazandusuns of Sabah since time immemorial. The celebration usually started from 1st of May in kampung (village) and mukim (district) level, while the state level celebration falls on May 30 and May 31 every year.

It is always a great pleasure to visit one of the most happening and dynamic restaurant in KK - Bella Italia of Jesselton hotel.
