Looking back at my food posts, I noticed that more and more of them are revolving around Italian food. I admit that I’m a fan of pasta, but that revelation also shows that perhaps, more people are enjoying pasta as well? I love pasta! I find it so versatile – one can cook pasta with cheese, tomatoes, olive oil or even curry! And the variety of pasta is just endless – spaghetti, spaghettini, ravioli, angel’s hair, linguine, you name it. The possibilities with them are endless! Perhaps that’s why, more restaurants are unleashing their creativity with this versatile ingredient. I happen to visit Vanilla Place last week with a group of friends, and dining there meant more than just pasta!

Seafood Pesto Spaghetti
Oreo Mint (RM9.80)
Dinner started with drinks and I had the smooth and cold Oreo Mint shake.
Sparkles on the table
Spot the difference?
Tea for 2 – Mini scones, strawberries dipped in chocolate, mini macarons and more (RM18.80)
Tea for 2 came first, all pretty and colourful arranged on a 2-tier ensemble. I couldn’t help but notice the mini scones on the plate, screaming out for me to eat them! Topped with some orange marmalade, these scones were pleasantly soft and fluffy. It was my favourite of the lot!

Assorted Homemade Bread with Dips (RM9.80)
We were then served a plate of Assorted Homemade Bread with Dips, consisting of some warm toasted bread and 2 choices of dips – hummus and mashed olives. While I have had my share of hummus with bread before, the mashed olives was a first for me! It was savoury and a little sour, with a creamy and smooth texture. It was surprisingly really good with the bread!
Pie Tee (RM9.80)
Hawaiian Chicken Salad
Thumbs-up should be given to the plate of colourful Hawaiian Chicken Salad though! The huge portion was filled with lettuce, tomatoes, papayas and lots of chicken cubes, topped with honey mustard dressing. I loved the sweet honey mustard that gave this salad a pleasant twist, not to mention the tangy flavour from tomatoes. Pretty addictive!
Onion Soup (RM9.80)
We tried some of the soups served too, but my preference was the Mushroom soup which was extremely thick and concentrated with mushroom bits! The aroma was amazing and the mushroom bits gave the soup a nice bite. Eat it with the bread on the side if you find the flavour too overwhelming.

Spaghetti Carbonara (RM14.80)
Moving on to mains, we had Spaghetti Carbonara which was served with ham slices and mushroom, smothered in luscious cream cheese. What I think would complete this dish was a raw egg yolk in the middle to give it a golden hue and bring the richness to another level. But that’s just me.
Spaghetti Seafood Pesto (RM14.80)
I preferred the Spaghetti Seafood Pesto though, maybe because I am a seafood person! I loved the flavour of olive oil with spaghetti. The fragrance of basil here was strong but not overpowering, giving the seafood a nice herb flavour, elevating it to another level. This pesto indeed passed with flying colours.
