A couple of weeks ago, Ken invited us to go for dinner at Calorie, Sri Petaling. I was delighted to accept the invitation since it happened to be a place I visit frequently for lunch! To me, Calorie is a Hong Kong Style Restaurant that serves healthy and delicious food with a twist. They try to add in some element of fruits or vegetables to make the dish not only attractive but beneficial to health. Their all-time signature dish is the Pork Chop with Pumpkin rice, something that we would be trying later that night.

We started the meal with some delicious fruit juices, priced reasonably at RM4.90 each. A large glass with no added sugar or excessive water, I must say. Just how a good glass of fruit juice should be.
Mango with Yogurt (RM4.90)
We had several dishes of appetizers to be shared, starting with the Vegetable Salad. This was a simple vegetable dish of lettuce, tomatoes, red cabbage and raisins topped with some mayonnaise. To be honest, this was not something that I would order because it’s too healthy for my liking! But I did enjoy nibbling those raisins on top.

Another healthy appetizer was Vegetable Roll, a piece of crepe wrapped around shredded cabbage, carrot and a slice of cold ham.
Vegetable Roll (RM3.50)
What caught my attention was actually the Hong Kong Curry Fish Ball! Ah, the aroma alone was enough to make me salivate and indeed, whet my appetite for the evening. The fish balls were bouncy and delicious, while the curry was flavourful and fragrant. We all loved it so much, we asked for a second plate.

French Pork with Tomato (RM12.50)
After the series of appetizers, we sampled several items from the new menu, the first being Baked Pork Rib Rice with XO Sauce. The pork ribs were very well marinated, and the XO sauce was savoury and slightly sweet, perfect accompaniment to the rice.

Another of the new menu item was Baked Pork Rib Rice with Red Sauce, which had similar pork ribs but with a different sauce. The red sauce of tomato base was slightly sour as well as savoury, very appetizing.

The Baked Pork Chop Rice with Red Sauce was my favourite though – a thick slab of juicy pork chop well marinated and doused with delicious red sauce. Cravings, cravings..
