Betty's Midwest Kitchen @ Petaling Jaya

$ronco$ Monday, January 31, 2011 , , , ,

Snugly located in the middle of Aman Suria Damansuria, is a homely american diner, serving American Midwest recipe to our tropic Malaysian shores. However, the proprietors were able to keep costs down by serving mostly local produce, so you won't have to worry about paying ridiculous amount for a humble good old American Burger.

The decor reflects heavily on heartland American heritage. My friend and I came in early (about 6pm) to avoid the dinner crowd. Therefore were able to soak in the fine ambiance. It is said that at dinner time it is almost impossible to secure a table. Judging from the food and price, I can understand why.
The food that we consumed on that day...
 Dog Food RM9.00
I kid you now, this dish is called 'dog food' with its mushy gravy and fries being mixed to a mash, served in a silver saucer, looking very much like dog food. Having being labeled Dog Food may seem offensive to our local culture, with Muslims forbidding it and the very old traditional chinese deeming it as demeaning (think Bruce Lee's movie -fist of fury, 'no dogs and chinese allowed' ) However, dogs are a predominant member in American Families (think Bryan from Family guy, santa's little helper in Simpson, Comet from Full House) As it is, with Modern Malaysians judging from all the rage as result of the Poodle abuse video.
Jucy Lucy RM15.00
Hearty think straight cut fries to go with juicy lucy
'Juicy lucy' came highly recommended by my friend, Stanley. Its a pretty much a generic name that means having the cheese inside the meat rather than outside. When cooked the effect would melted cheese, once you've bitten into the cross section of the beef, oozing cheese, hence the name.
All in all the food was very tasty. The thick burger patty really fills the heart and belly, and dog food has that nice savoury sauce and slighlty bitter burnt cheese taste, truly awesome good for both man and his loyal canine companion. Be advised that this is a non-halal restaurant as pork is a staple meat for midwestern dishes, and this restaurant is of no exception.
